I believe very strongly in the Separation of Church and State.

One of the worst afflictions the United States currently suffers is the political application of religion, a notion expressly discouraged by the original American philosophers. Both the left and right are guilty of this, albeit it does seem to be more visible within right-wing politics.

Under no circumstances would I ever create legislation predicated upon any religious bias. Additionally, I would seek to repeal any legislation that has been written solely to appease a particular religious body.

Such topics include, but are certainly not limited to:

  • The sale, distribution, and taxation of alcohol (eg: restricting Sunday sales)
  • Legislation used to indirectly target homosexuals (eg: former anti-sodomy laws)
  • Policies influencing educational curriculum (eg: describing creationism as "science")

I believe all people are protected by the first amendment and may practice any form of religion they choose without government interference.
