I do not support capital punishment at any level of government and would introduce legislation within the State of Texas to suspend or ban the practice.

Constitutionally speaking, I do believe that Texas has the right to practice capital punishment under authority of the enumerated powers, albeit I personally do not support the practice. I would federally support a Constitutional amendment to ban the practice, but would reject anything less than this on principle (such as an executive order).

Philosophically speaking, capital punishment neither revives victims nor serves as a deterrent to prevent crimes. Consequently, I view capital punishment as the state enacting revenge and I do not believe, in any way, that revenge should be a state function.

Additionally, I urge people to consider the hugely disproportionate application of capital punishment with respect to African Americans and Hispanics (there is no shortage of information detailing this reality).
